Santhosh_AnniraMemberI have a WebSphere 7 Network deployment AppServer installation on my machine. We just purchased MyEclipse Blue and I am trying to configure a server instance to connect to this localhost WAS installation. On the MyEclipse (version 9) server configuration screen, it accepts my network deployment base directory as WebSphere home directory but on the Add server Instance screen it does not recognize the profiles/AppSrv01 ( this is the defalut AppServer directory on my machine) as a valid home directory for AppServers. I need help. Let me know if you need screen shots or more info.
Brian FernandesModeratorSanthosh,
Could you give us a link to the application server you are using? I’m afraid I could not find a product called “WebSphere 7 Network deployment AppServer”.
If it is much different from a regular WebSphere 7 installation, then most likely MyEclipse Blue will not support it. If is a simple variation of WebSphere 7, we should, but our team will need a closer look at the problems.
Santhosh_AnniraMemberI am surprised by this question but anyway here is a link to more documentation on WebSphere 7 Network Deployment version. IBM has been providing this starting with Version 5 of WebSphere ( I would say for about 6 years now).

Network Deployment is basically WebSphere AppServer plus a Standalone deployoment manager which can manage a cell consisting of multiple WebSphere AppServer Nodes. I have one instance of the deployment manager and one instance of the AppServer on my machine. MyEclipse recognises the base directory of network deployment but fails to recognize the profiles/AppServer directory in the profile selection screen for the AppServer and gives me invalid configuration error.
I have found a workaround to make it recognize the directory for now but we need more documentation as to the correct way of configuring, deploying, starting, stopping, and debugging with WebSphere intergration. I pushed my company to go with the Blue version because your web site touts tight integration with WebSphere but without adquate documentation it has been litte frustrating getting this thing to work.
Brian FernandesModeratorSanthosh,
Wanted to be clear on exactly what product we were talking about here.
MyEclipse Blue has not been tested with this variant of WebSphere and I cannot comment on how / if it will work with this version. Even if you have managed to get MyEclipse to recognize the profile directories, I suspect there may be other problems but I cannot say without more research. Did you manage to deploy a project and start the server from the Servers view?
The changes required to fully support network deployment correctly in MyEclipse Blue may actually be small but none of these changes can be made until MyEclipse 10 at the earliest.I’ve put this on my team’s list for investigation and possible support.
We do strive to improve the tooling, for example the 9.1 due shortly will have a new and much faster deployment mode. Unfortunately, that does not help your case and I can understand your frustration over expectations unmet; if you wish to discuss your purchase further, please write to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
