Is there any way to test if the current release runs under M5? When I tried to install it I got an error message regarding the version of eclipse that I was using

No. The MyEclipse 3.7 scheduled for early Dec will support M5. Numerous API changes in M5 prevent any early versions of MyEclipse or almost any other 3rd party plugin from working. Thus we intentionally restrict the ME installer to specific versions of Eclipse to avoid numerous compatibility support cases. Living on the cutting edge cuts both ways.
