If I go to Windows -> Preferences -> General -> Editors -> Text Editors and change the “Displayed tab width” to 2 (or any other number for that matter) instead of the default of 4 it always shows 4 chars for the tab while editing java files. I have stopped and restarted MyEclipse which does not help. I changed it to 8 and it still showed 4 chars. This appears to be only for Java files. xml, properties, jsp, and css files are all displaying correctly with only 2 chars.

I looked all over for other places that might have the Java editor settings and everything seems to either point back to the Text Editor or it has no link anywhere at all.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    hey robomon,

Click on Window > Preferences > Java > Formatter. Click on [Edit]. On the Indentation tab, you can change the Tab size. This will automatically change the tab settings in the Preview pane. You might need to change the Profile name, Click on [Apply] and [OK]. Open a .java file in java editor and check the tab settings. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the info. I had to go to Window > Preferences > Java > Code Style > Formatter. That did the trick.

Good to hear that you were able to change the java editor tab width.
