    This one’s a bit odd…

I went to upgrade MyEclipse 3.8.1 to 3.8.2. I followed the instructions on the upgrade thread, except that I had forgotten that my client requires HTTP proxy with authentication, so my proxy settings were all wrong.

But the upgrade **appeared** to have completed successfully. I didn’t get any warnings, and it asked me to restart the Workbench as expected. When I did (manually with -clean, etc. since I’m on 3.0), all MyEclipse functionality was just GONE. No errors in the workbench GUI…it just behaves as though ME was never installed. But there are of course a bunch of errors in the log regarding missing plugins and such. Wierdest part: the “about” says that MyEclipse 3.8.2 is installed, and the upgrade wizard says there are no new updates. I can’t seem to get it to re-install the upgrade.

Can I force the upgrade to run again? Or do I have to to a complete uninstall?

(FYI, I can say from prior experience that upgrading the Eclipse software itself gives me an error when I forget to set the proxy correctly…but MyEclipse never complained…?)

Seem to have found a solution, though it seems more wierd to me than the question. I wiped out the MyEclipse portion of the platform.xml file. When I restarted Eclipse, I realized before I even got to check the update wizard that ME 3.8.2 had been recognized. A look in the ME install directory showed a number of 3.8.2 plugins beside the existing 3.8.1 plugins. I even went though the release notes and tried some of the new functionality (XML comments, etc) and it seems OK.

So I guess ME doesn’t use the Eclipse proxy settings, and I had some other issue?

Only possible remainder of something not right I’ve found so far: The splash screen in the MyEclipse portion of the Workbench properties still says version 3.8.1+QF20040825…is this a known issue?

So, in the end, I don’t rightly know what happened or how…but I’m back up and running.
